EmTec New UUDecode

Is anyone else having this problem?

When marking a number of files for decoding in Emtec news, all seems to work
fine, until 2 files in the batch load, then it stops.  I then have to press
the stop button and then GO again.  This gets me 2 or maybe 3 more files and
then I have to do it again.  I think something similar was happening in
Neologic news just before I put EmTec on also.  Anyone have a fix for this ?
Thanks.

No problems here, in fact the problem I had with NNS News is fixed!
The last version would not autodecode for me unless I was online, now
it works offline too. Decoded about 50 files without a hitch.

When I throw about 20 binaries in the uudecoder, the first 2 get decoded,
    then 3, 5, 7, 9 etc…. Then it stops, and I have to press de start/stop
button to get the numbers 4, 6, 8, etc…. Wierd problem.

But the 4.6 release is good. With the 4.5 release I had problems
with the newsreader messing up the number of unread/read messages, that
    seems to be solved.

Didn’t change a thing for me either.  Still can’t decode messages 3, 5,

I had the same problem in version 4.5.

The patch works for me. Don’t forget to reboot after you copied
the new EXE file in the netsuite directory before starting it.

Why do you have to reboot, it’s only a exe file.  I just closed Emtec
news, copied the file and ran news again.

This fix create another problem.  Don’t try to "Show list of available
group" it create the news.exe all the time!

Marcus has a fix for the fix on this one on the ftp site.  The work around
is to delete the news group description file and don’t reload them.

Interesting.  One of my biggest gripes against the NNS (which I have been
using since Aug 95) has been the descriptions for the newsgroups.   Since 90%
of the groups in the list I get from my provider have no descriptions loading
them in was always a waste of time.

And the descriptions that do exist are often less informative than the group’s
    name.

It shouldn’t take 10 to 15 minutes to display the list of newsgroups.

I didn’t download the descriptions this time after installing the EmTec Suite.
But it asks me if I want to download descriptions when I show the list every
    time when online.

    Perhaps Marcus could either:

    a)  Give us a configuration checkbox to turn off the descriptions  or (better
    still)

    b)  Eliminate the descriptions entirely.

Oh, I just downloaded the ‘fix’, but the filename is ‘news46b.zip’ not
‘newsbeta.zip’.  Dare I hope this is the ‘fix’ of the ‘fix’ mentioned above?

Actually the thing that broke was the fact that a Msoft group used a desc
longer than 256 chars<g>.  Yes I find the descriptions to be a real pig.
I have an ISDN connection and can load stuff fast, but since the
decriptions get loaded at the same time as the groups a full download
(21,000 groups) takes forever and never goes above 1600 cps as it indexes
    the descriptions on the fly.

Get the fix from the emtec ftp site or say NO all the time<g>.

I tested it and it works fine, but I’ld not be upset if descriptions were
eliminated. I could use the extra 1 MB of disk space for better things.
